Lappeenranta Summer

The colorful events and historical attractions in Lappeenranta together with the region’s
magnificent nature offer unforgettable experiences. Lappeenranta is a popular destination in Finland and a hub of lakeside tourism along the shores of Lake Saimaa, Europe’s 4th largest lake. Lappeenranta is also the famous Finnish Bordertown where fictional inspector Sorjonen lives in.

Finland’s tallest Sandcastle!

Sandcastle area open daily 9 June – 2 September from 10 am - 9 pm

The 15-year-old Sandcastle respects the European Year of Cultural Heritage in its castle art.
Finland’s biggest Sandcastle includes all the Finland’s castles as well as the Vyborg’s Castle. There are also sculptures of familiar tourist attractions from the Saimaa area and St. Petersburg as well as the destinations of Athens and Milan. The City of Lappeenranta also provides tourist information services for the Sandcastle area and you can hire bicycles, kayaks, SUP-boards and a row boat at the point. Open 9.-24 June and 1 Aug-2 Sept Mon-Sun 10 am - 6 pm, 25 June -31 July Mon-Sun 10 am - 8 pm.

Get familiar with Lappeenranta By touring the city on board a street train. 9 June - 12 Aug, 18 - 19 Aug, 25 - 26 Aug and 1 - 2 Sept. Departure every hour from the Sandcastle Mon 12-17 and Tue-Sun 11-17. Read more

4 June - 31 Aug,  Children`s Traffic Park

Lacated on Valtakatu behind the Water tower. The traffic park is attended by an instructor, who is on hand to provide help and advice. Open Mon - Fri at 9am - 6pm, also on Saturdays in July at 11am - 4pm.

9 June, 11 Aug  Historic Town Hall open at 10am – 3pm, live music at noon.

The oldest wood-built Town hall in Finland is located in the centre of Lappeenranta. Read more

7 - 8 July  Steamship regatta at the port of Lappeenranta. You can visit steamships on Sat at 2 pm - 4 pm and on Sun at 10 am - noon.

1 - 31 July  Wed - Sun from 1 pm to 4 pm  Traditional horse riders
Dressed in traditional military unifor, including red trousers an so-called "skeleton" jackets dating back to 1922, these historical re-enactment enthusiasts will be patrolling the Fortress and the bay area on horseback. Come cheer them on and photograph the riders.

10 July, Cycling event for the whole family at the Harbour from 11 am to 5 pm.

10 - 11 August, Old Town Days at the Fortress. The event spreads throughout the fortress with exhibitions, workshops and performances.

18 August, SO-CAR MEET - event, at the Fortress 

18 - 19 August, Russian market at the Green Storehouse in the Fortress. You can buy russian-style hand-made souvenirs and baked goods. Coffee shop “Rupla” offers Russian soups. You can also enjoy plenty of different music shows that will be going throughout the day.
