There are about twenty summer workers serving visitors in the Sandcastle area. They can be recognised by their Hyvien ihmisten kaupunki (“City of good people”) shirts, based on the TV series Bordertown. The shirts and a sculpture created for the filming of Bordertown are related to paid Bordertown filming location tours that are starting this summer.

The Sandcastle to be reopened on the main event day of the jubilee year, 7 September

Lappeenranta's 370th anniversary jubilee week will be celebrated at the end of August and during the first week of September. The Sataman Valot (Harbour Lights) event marks the start of the jubilee week on Saturday 31 August. The Lappeenranta Ballet Gala will also be held at the start of the jubilee week from 30 to 31 August. The week culminates in the Fortress Lights main event of the jubilee year on Saturday 7 September.

The free Grand Gala Concert, to be held in a 3,000-person tent at the fortress, will be the highlight of the Fortress Lights event. The story of the 370-year-old Lappeenranta will be the driving force of the concert.

The Sandcastle will also reopen after its operating season in honour of the city’s 370th anniversary on the Fortress Lights event day on 7 September. On the event day, the rides will be available for use free of charge.
