3. Hamina Gate of the Fortress + Pusupuisto Park (Kissing Park)

Nature in the city
Lappeenranta’s Fortress is easy to reach from different parts of the town, because it is located in a very central place. There is a lot to see in the Fortress area, since its beautiful ramparts project besides into the water area of Kaupunginlahti, also into the neighborhood of Pallo. This Western side of the Fortress delights with its greenery and solidity. Looking at this countryside view, you wouldn’t believe that Harbor Square and the city center are right around the corner.

Address: Satamatie, distance from center less than 1km

When exiting the roundabout in Pallo to Satamatie, you can get to the Western side of the Fortress from the previous destination (Saunaranta Park).

A path starting at the base of the ramparts leads towards Pusupuisto Park – the Kissing Park. The park’s name originates from when it used to be a popular meeting place among conscripts and their girlfriends in the late 19th century.

Nowadays, the park’s dark green trees cover the city’s sounds to their leaves, which makes the park calm and cozy. In Pusupuisto Park there is a renovated stage, where music performances can be organized. In addition to the stage, there is also a summer theater in the park area, where music and dance performances are held during summer.
